While it is never possible to guarantee there will be no bruising after an injectable procedure, seeking treatment with an experienced injector is helpful. Even though it is not necessary to avoid any types of medication prior to your procedure, the following steps can be helpful: avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, aleve (naproxen), and advil (ibuprofen) at least 5 days prior to your procedure; avoid fish oil and herbs such as gingko biloba, ginger, ginseng, glucosamine, turmeric, angelica, and clove that have the potential to thin the blood 3-5 days before the procedure; avoid alcohol, Vitamin E, and green tea the day before your procedure. Do not stop any medications prescribed by your physician for ongoing medical conditions. Arnica montana is a supplement that has been reported to have the potential to decrease bruising when taken prior to an injectable treatment. Bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory found in fresh pineapple, may also
decrease bruising.
