What are they?
Your body naturally produces growth factors which help maintain healthy skin. Growth factors (GFs) stimulate cellular division, promote blood flow, and increase collagen and elastin production. GFs are also responsible for repairing damaged skin and aid in the skin’s protective functions by helping to create a strong barrier. As we age, we produce less growth factors, which results in the appearance of aging skin. As we age, the decreasing GF, elastin, and collagen production leads to thinner, less supple skin, with wrinkles and sagging (skin laxity). On top of these natural age-related skin changes, environmental factors such as sun exposure and pollution further accelerate the signs of aging.
Why you should use Growth Factors:
While the combination of getting older and worsening environmental factors may have you throwing your hands up, there are options to turn back the clock. Daily use of a product containing growth factors can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tighten skin tone and texture and improve discoloration. Growth factors remind the skin to “think younger “ by turning on the cellular activities that make skin look brighter and fresher. As with any skincare routine, you should use a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Protecting newly revitalized skin is important to maintain results. With any skincare regimen, talk to a medical professional to determine what products are right for you.
Who should use Growth Factors? When? How?
Anyone with visible signs of aging can benefit from adding a product with growth factors into their skincare routine. Consistently applying twice a day immediately after cleansing the skin will result in the best outcome.
