At Renew Dermatology, the philosophy behind aesthetic treatments is as important as the treatments themselves. That’s especially true for board-certified dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Bares, whose approach to injectables blends medical precision with an artist’s eye. With over five years of experience, beginning during her dermatology residency in New York City, Dr. Bares has developed a reputation for delivering subtle, natural-looking results that leave patients feeling confident, not overdone.

“Growing up, I was interested in art and drawing,” she explains. “Although I chose a career based in science and medicine, aesthetics helps satisfy my artistic side. I also love helping patients regain confidence and feel renewed and rejuvenated through the aesthetic treatments we offer.”

That commitment to natural beauty is central to her filler philosophy. “My approach to filler is subtle but refreshed. Everyone has seen bad filler; and bad, overdone filler gets more publicity than filler that is done using small-volumes in appropriately chosen locations,” she says. “My goal is for a patient to walk out of my office and have their friends and family wonder why they look so rested and rejuvenated, not immediately know that they’ve had filler done. Good filler is walking around everywhere, I promise, you just don’t know it!”

So how does she strike that balance? For Dr. Bares, it comes down to strategy, restraint, and honesty. “I place small amounts of filler in well-chosen areas to create a refreshed appearance,” she says. “I’m also not afraid to say “no” to my patients! The “overdone face” is sometimes a result of patients going to an injector and asking for a fold or a wrinkle to be filled and the injector agreeing to do it. My approach is always to educate patients on why the fold is there in the first place. You may hate your nasolabial fold and want it injected, but I won’t ever fill a nasolabial fold without first correcting the volume loss that has occurred in the cheeks and lateral face. That balance is what keeps “pillow face” from happening.”

Her favorite area to treat? The lips. “Lips are one of the most complicated but also the most artistic areas of the face to inject. I love to inject one half of the lips first, and do a mid-treatment reveal to the patient so they can see the difference and ask for any tweaks in real time.”

Dr. Bares is also excited about the future of injectables, particularly the rise of biostimulatory fillers, which stimulate the body to produce its own collagen and elastin. She explains, “Biostimulatory filler harnesses your body’s own ability to make new collagen and elastin to produce a longer lasting, more natural rejuvenation than the HA fillers can provide. We provide these at Renew already, and for the right patient, they are the perfect way to slow down the aging process and give your face the collagen boost it needs!”

For those new to fillers, Dr. Bares recommends starting conservatively. “Starting small with a syringe or two of hyaluronic acid based, they are dissolvable if you really don’t like the results.”

And if you’re still on the fence? Our Filler Injectable Event is the perfect time to explore your options. “You’ll receive a full face and neck aesthetic consultation, and we will be offering exclusive event-only pricing,” says Dr. Bares. “If you have never tried filer before and are nervous, we don’t have to inject that day.  We can talk about it and schedule your injection visit when it’s the right time for you.”

When she’s not in clinic, you’ll likely find Dr. Bares sipping iced coffee (yes, even in 30-degree weather) or reaching for a mid-day Celsius to power through life with a toddler. Her skincare must-have? Alastin Hydratint Sunscreen, without question.
